Peniscula and around Peniscula villas and apartments to rent also hotels

Peñíscola is a Valencian municipality located on the Costa del Azahar along the eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain in the province of Castellón

Peniscula has a fine monumental heritage. The town and 11thc battlements are crowned by a magnificent castle once the residence of Pope Benedict XIII and the Knights Templars.

The castle stands on top of an impressive rocky crag which rises from the blue sea on the tip of a beautiful crescent shaped beach. The castle was restored, improved and new walls were added in 1960 when Anthony Mann's film El Cid was partially filmed there.

PeñIscola’s narrow cobbled streets are filled with attractive shops and excellent restaurants. You may recognise the location as one of the settings in the epic film ‘El Cid’ The town attracts historians, lovers of medieval architecture and tourists from all over the world

The beaches at PeñIscola are among the finest in the region, being safe and clean. At the fishing port each afternoon, a spectacular fish auction is held where much of the fish served by the local hotels and restaurants is bought.
