Lloret de Mar is a coastal town in Catalonia on the Mediterranean primarily known as a tourist resort. It is adjacent to Blanes and Tossa de Mar and is 75 kilometers from Barcelona. and it is the second largest town in the Selva comarca (county) of Catalonia
Lloret de Mar has grown from a small fishing village with just a few hotels to a holiday bustling resort with a wealth of varying accommodation right at the heart of the Costa Brava.
The sandy beaches and the clear water coves are a major attraction here offering a host of watersports. The beautiful palm lined seafront promenade brings together a mix of architecture with its nineteenth century and modernist houses.
Historical attractions within the town include the church of Sant Romà dating back to 1522; the hermitage of Santa Cristina standing above the beach and the monument to the Woman Sailor, by Ernest Maragall
Many consider a bronze statue overlooking the town in Lloret de Mar to be Lloret's symbol. The sculpture shows a fisherman's wife (Dona Marinera) and it was made in 1966. There is a medieval fort on the outskirts of the town (Lloret was founded in 1001 AD).
You can enjoy a mix of regional produce: fish and shellfish from the shores and game and vegetables from the mountains in the many terraces, bars and restaurants in Lloret de Mar.
