Seville while on holiday in Spain, a Jewel in Andalusia’s Crown

In the heart of Andalusia, the southern Spanish province, lies a truly astounding city; Seville. Its location as the western most point in the triangle with other great Andalusian cities Granada and Cordoba is most attractive to people on holiday discovering this corner of the Iberian Peninsula.

Seville is famous for a number of typical Spanish things: the bright oranges that grow on trees lining the streets, the Flamenco music that is played every night on street corners and cafés and bars around the old city centre, the old Moorish quarter Barrio Santa Cruz, the Alcazar, the cathedral with its Giralda tower, and much more besides.

The Barrio Santa Cruz is a fascinating area in the old town, with narrow little cobbled streets, enchanting little squares lined with quaint artisan shops and small bars. This neighbourhood has a distinct feel and at night it turns into a haven for couples looking for a romantic evening at one of the many wonderful restaurants.

The Alcazar, the old Moorish palace, is impressive though not on the scale of the more renowned Alhambra in Granada. Its gardens, however, are a wonderful treat and the shady lanes provide a welcome retreat on hot days, of which there are plenty in Seville.

Don’t forget to enjoy some authentic Flamenco music and dancing but make certain to avoid the big tourist venues and in stead look around the back streets for one of the many bars frequented by the local where you get to witness the genuine article. In conclusion I can wholeheartedly recommend Seville as a destination to anyone as it is an enchanting magical place that will entice any visitor.
