Tenerife - guide to Tenerife Spain
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands,
basking in year-round warmth off the African coast, Tenerife is a split personality
. . . lush in the Orotava valley, barren on the slopes of Mt. Teide; traditional
villages in the North, all-out-fun resorts in the South. Sample as much of
the colour of Tenerife as you can.
Known as the sub-tropical Canary Island, Tenerife boasts fabulous year-round weather. Beaches of both dark volcanic and golden sand curve around the coastline, offering a wide variety of watersports and amenities.
The most popular resort is Playa de Las Americas - the pulsating heart of the island. A thriving town it has several excellent beaches, South of Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos boasts a sandy beach protected by a jetty, making it popular with families.
With a year-round climate, holidaymakers come here to soak up the sun and to party, especially at carnival time, the main one being celebrated in the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Inland, you will find traditional rural towns, hillside villages, banana plantations and bizarre landscapes formed from the twisted lava-rock of Mount Teide, the largest mountain in Spain.
